Introduction
The Evangelical Alliance of Kenya (EAK) is the national Umbrella organization for evangelical churches in Kenya. It was established in 1975 as Evangelical Fellowship of Kenya under the auspices of the Association of Evangelicals in Africa and Madagascar (AEAM) which has since its name to association of Evangelicals in Africa.
The Alliance currently has a membership of 52 denominations most of which have a national presence that are spread throughout the country. The total membership
Of the evangelicals is estimated at 10 million in about 38,000 congregations and make up approximately 32% of the Kenya population.
Vision
To have people transformed through the power of Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ living in a just and righteous society that glorifies God.
Mission
To empower the evangelicals to bring God’s transforming grace to the people of Kenya through a united prophetic voice and holistic ministries.
Objectives
- To facilitate and provide national forum for partnership, networking and fellowship among the members
- To spread the gospel of Jesus Christ in a holistic way
- To provide a forum for advocacy and leadership in issues affecting the spiritual, social and physical welfare of the nation
- To train and build the capacity of members to realize their full potential
- To facilitate research, study and assistance to member churches and groups in cross-cultural missions and discipling the nation
- To assist member churches and groups in locating, sharing and utilizing resources for the most effective implementation of their common visions, missions and objectives
- To facilitate conflict and dispute resolution and peace building within and outside EAK membership
Role of EAK
- Making the presence of the gospel available to all communities in Kenya through the member churches.
- Church leadership that has credibility with the communities and state organs for effective engagement in development issues
- A membership that is empowered to engage with issues affecting their livelihoods both at the local and national levels.
- Communities empowered to engage in meaningful and productive activities, proactively manage social vices and contribute towards poverty alleviation and narrowing of disparities that exist in our systems
